Hi there, you have reached the blog of one Hannah G. Ruthven. The G stands for Grace, not Gert, and I have the certificate to prove it. You may remember me as Hannah G. Davis, you are more likely not to remember me at all.
I grew up in Redditch, which is in the midlands, which is in the UK. Redditch was once voted ‘Ugliest Town’ by controversial channel 4 show ‘The Word’. I believe there are indeed uglier places, but to be honest, it’s a pretty accurate description. The first time I took my husband to Redditch he witnessed a woman disciplining her child with a lit cigarette. In unrelated news, I now live in Crouch End, North London. A pretty village suburb where rainbows routinely appear to come from drainpipes, toddlers shit gold, and NO ONE THREATENS THEIR CHILDREN WITH FIRE.
I graduated in 2002 with a degree in English Literature from The University of Hull. Seriously! Hull has a university! I’m not joking! I loved Hull, I left immediately after graduation and a boyfriend who was quite the drug dealer, let this not put you off the city, it is full of fine non drug dealing people, but you won’t be able to understand them, they say things like ‘curk’, when they mean ‘coke’.
I moved to London when I met my husband John, who was living in Putney, where posh people and Australians gravitate and then mingle uncomfortably. John moved to Shoreditch shortly afterwards for a year we like to call ‘The Dark Time’, mostly because the people there look like they got dressed by the blind. We couldn’t get milk locally but we could buy a second hand t.shirt from a shop called ‘Sick’, and we lived on salt beef bagels. We miss the bagels, we do not miss Sick.
This website began when I moved to Crouch End, through changing my career from management consultancy (YAWN) to counselling (YAW… Hey! Why are you yawning? Would you like to tell me how it feels to yawn? Where do you think the yawn comes from? If your yawn was a person and sat in that chair what would you say to it? What would the yawn say to you? Would you like to write the yawn a letter?). John and I became engaged during Christmas 2009 and got married in June 2011. There are therefore MANY entries about diet and exercise, and a particularly hysterical post about how stressful I found choosing a wedding dress (clue: I found it VERY stressful).
I got pregnant so fast it seems obscene to even talk about it, and our first baby is due on 17th April 2012.
